Pomegranates are the same fruits that are actually the root cause of seasonal changes as well as the difference of fertility of earth in different seasons according to Greek mythology.
It is said that Hades, the God of Underworld abducted Peresphone, daughter of Demeter, the Goddess of Harvest as a result of which the sorrowful mother of Persephone went into mourning.
Demeter’s mourning made the earth infertile and barren so Zeus rescued her daughter from Hades.
In spite of that Persephone has to spend four months in the underworld since she had four seeds of pomegranates there. So that is how earth becomes barren for four months every year and we have four months of cold and barrenness.

- Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants since the fruit is rich in Polyphenol, which protects the cells from oxidation. In fact it is considered to be richer in antioxidants than fruits like cranberries and oranges.
- Pomegranates are also a rich source of VitaminB, VitaminC, pantothenic acid and potassium, which have the potential to provide immunity against various diseases.
- This fruit also has calcium and phosphorous which can strengthen the bones and the brain cells of an individual. The deficiency of these two minerals can lead to the weakening of bones.
- The juice of Pomegranate has the potential to fight against a disease called Artherosclerosis in which the walls of the arteries become stiff. In fact it has been observed that Pomegranate juice, apart from fighting the disease also cures it.
- Pomegranates are fruits, which can fight anemia and increase the hemoglobin percentage which was always known.
- Pomegranates also reduce the risk of Prostrate Cancer since it has a nutrient that can fight against the causing factors of Prostrate cancer.
- It has been observed that the consumption of the juice can also reduce the chances of heart diseases to a considerable extent as it reduces the chances of hardening of artery walls, besides, it also reduces the level of LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) oxidation and foam cell formation.
- Pomegranates are also effective cures for Diabetes and Lymphoma.
- The juice of Pomegranate contains antibacterial and antiviral effects, which also protects our teeth from plaque.
- Pomegranates can also be consumed as dietary supplements since it does not have much sugar, therefore they do not add to the calories in the body.
- Pomegranates are also effective as a cure against Breast cancer since it lessens estrogen synthesis by the body.
Pomegranates can also be consumed if you are suffering from loss of appetite, piles, morning sickness or a sore throat. It can be medicinal for all these ailments and being natural it also has no side effects as such and can be consumed as much as you want.
Pomegranates also have the ability to kill parasites and worms in the stomach. It has been proved that Pomegranates actually provide relief to patients of Asthma as it contains Ascorbic Acid which is a strong anti-inflammatory agent.
Though Pomegranates do not have side effects yet if you are already consuming a medicine, it is better to take your doctor’s advice before going on a regular intake of Pomegranate for a particular ailment.
